Amazon Announced Fee Updates for US Referral and FBA Fee for 2025

Looking back on the road, we have seen that Amazon has revised the FBA fee structure, introducing many changes in the inbound, outbound, and storage fees. These changes have affected the FBA and FBM sellers in many ways.

Before the start of 2025, Amazon announced they are going to make changes in referral and FBA fees. The changes will improve Amazon’s partnership in serving customers, allow sellers to build thriving businesses, and maintain long-term value among sellers.

Glimpse on Amazon Fee Changes in 2024

In 2024, there were many fee changes enforced by Amazon that included lowering fulfillment fees for low-priced products, low referral fees for low-priced apparel items, and updates in the fulfillment fee structure to split inbound and outbound fees allowing sellers to have more options that align with their requirements.

The Amazon FBA fee changes made in 2024 increased the sale of low-priced products and supported the fastest prime shipping. Sellers have effectively adapted to the fee changes and experienced improved customer experience and record-breaking sales.

“According to Amazon, the sellers are paying Amazon an average of $0.05 less per unit than they were paying a year ago.”

All these fee changes imposed by Amazon in 2024, encouraged sellers to use Amazon’s platform services including faster shipping and storage in Amazon fulfillment centers.

US referral and Fulfillment by Amazon fees Update for 2025

Amazon has recently announced the upcoming fee updates for 2025 for US referral and fulfillment by Amazon fee changes to lower the cost for Amazon sellers. After the fee changes in 2024, some sellers faced the complexity of modifying their operations, making changes in their business process, and more.

The new fee changes will be made focusing on the stability of sellers, minimizing operational burden and costs, and offering growth opportunities. Considering the inflation condition in the market, Amazon decided to not increase US referral and FBA fees and not introduce any new fees. Amazon will also lower some fees, and offer extra benefits to support new sellers.

Here are some of the key takeaways from what Amazon has announced for fee updates in 2025:

  • Amazon will continue to invest in fee-related product experience: fee calculator and fee preview tools, features to estimate transportation costs, suggest cost-effective shipping options, and more.
  • Low Inbound Placement Fee: Amazon will reduce the inbound placement service fee for large bulky-sized products by an average of $0.58 per unit. This change will be effective from January 15, 2025.
  • Waive Inbound Placement Fee for New Parent ASIN: Amazon will waive the inbound placement service fee for new parent ASINs that are part of the FBA New Selection Program for shipments created between December 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The first 100 inbound units per new parent ASIN will be exempted from the inbound placement service fee. This will encourage sellers to add new products to Amazon without any additional cost of inbound placement service fees.
  • Incentives on Adding New Selection Categories: Amazon will offer more incentives for New Sellers and sellers for adding certain FBA new selections to the store starting on January 15th, 2025. Amazon will offer timebound discounts and regularly refresh these discounts for the products that come under the everyday essential segment, have high customer demand but lower selection breadth in the store, and are popular brands with global availability.

These new fee changes will help sellers gain more profitability, and achieve greater margins on their sales. If you need more details on the following fee updates, please refer to this blog.
